Samoa bans imports of poultry from South America

Samoa's Ministry of Agriculture has banned importation of poultry from South American countries.

The Samoalive website says that the ban was imposed following a review of the pattern of high risk areas for the bird flu.

The main source of poultry imports into Samoa is Brazil.

The national crisis committee set up to monitor and take measures to prevent the bird flu virus from reaching Samoa has become increasingly active as the bird flu infections pick up around the globe.

The flight paths of migratory birds from the northern hemisphere are now being monitored to see if Samoa is included.
