There are a further four Pacific Island countries which have expressed an interest in becoming members of the International Labour organisation, or the ILO.
They would join the existing six members, which includes Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Vanuatu and Samoa.
The director of the ILO's Pacific office, Dr Abu Mohammed Zackaria, says many countries in the region are working on updating their labour legislation and are receiving help from the ILO to do so.
Dr Zackaria says they've also indicated they would consider joining the ILO.
"One is Tuvalu, second was Marshall Islands, and Palau, and also Cook Islands. Once they formally approach, then they would become a member of the ILO. They're still considering and they said they're putting their agenda to their cabinet meetings."
Dr Abu Mohammed Zackaria was speaking from Suva where the ILO is holding seminars this week to celebrate 30 years of its existence in the South Pacific.
