Reports from Samoa say a redundancy package scheme for Polynesian Airlines staff has been approved.
The acting chief executive of Polynesian Airlines, Fatu Tielu, has told the Samoa Observer newspaper that the redundancy plan has been cleared by cabinet, but he can't release the details without clearance from the airline's board.
The actual number of employees to lose their jobs keeps changing because some of the staff which were to have been retained by Polynesian have opted to leave.
The redundancies follow the merger between Polynesian and Virgin Blue to form a new airline Polynesian Blue. The airline is due to start service between Samoa, Australia and New Zealand at the end of this month.
Polynesian Airlines will continue to operate inter Samoa service using smaller aircraft.
