Tourism to Niue and the island's fledging fishing industry stand to benefit from a deal signed with Air New Zealand to fly there once a week from next month.
The 737 flight will replace one provided by Polynesian Airlines for the past three years, but which disappears this month with the launch of Polynesian Blue.
Air New Zealand's group general manager, Norm Thompson, says, while there are only about 100 beds in Niue, the airline will promote Niue's tourist attractions.
"This is all about working with the respective parties to try and grow tourism to Niue plus at the same time trying to look are the Niuean communities here in New Zealand and on top of that they have a requirement to move, in particular, fish out of Niue to the markets here in New Zealand. So there is some freight opportunity also."
The Niue Premier, Young Vivian, whose government will underwrite loadings on the flights, says they will also be promoting attractions.
He says these include the bush, caves, diving and fishing, and Niue's friendly villages.
