Two departments at the American Samoa Community College are to receive extra funding this term through the federal Community Services Block Grant.

The program aims to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty in communities by supporting projects in the areas of employment and education.

The scheme also supports the better use of available income, housing, nutrition, and emergency services.

The Nursing Department is to be awarded 25,000 US dollars while another 10,000 dollars will got to the Trades & Technology Department.

The Nursing Department chairperson, Lele Ah Mu-Mageo, said the funds would go primarily towards having more licensed nurses working in American Samoa.

In the Trades & Technology Department, the money will be used to buy urgently needed up-to-date tools and equipment for instruction.
