Fiji's prime minister has for the first time indicated that the amnesty clause in the government's controversial Reconciliation and Unity Bill will be amended.
Radio Legend reports that Laisenia Qarase revealed this on their Hindi language sister radio station.
Mr Qarase says the changes will ensure that the constitutional rights of the judiciary, the director of public prosecutions and the police force are upheld.
He says the government will ensure that the Bill complies with the provisions of the constitution.
He says while parliament's Justice, Law and Order Committee is considering public submissions, that does not stop the state law office from thinking about changes to the amnesty provisions.
Mr Qarase says the government has received a lot of input from people and organisations as well as advice which, taken together, form a sound basis for changes to the amnesty provisions.
