Tributes are pouring in following the death of Fiji's oldest citizen at the age of 105.

Bechu Prasad, who was born on the 10th of May 1900 at Rakiraki, died peacefully at his home at Sabeto near Nadi last night.

Mr Prasad was in good health to the end which he attributed to regular exercise on his cane farm and a wholesome diet.

Radio Legend reports that the chiefs and indigenous people of Sabeto are mourning the passing of Mr Prasad whom they describe as a person who bridged the gap between the Indian and Fijians races.

The headman of Sabeto, Apisalome Savu, says Mr Prasad served the people of Sabeto very generously for many years and always observed local customs and traditions.
