Vanuatu wants to attract older investors from New Zealand to set up tourism accommodation businesses there.

Vanuatu is one of six Pacific nations which have been touring New Zealand this week to attract investment in tourism ventures.

Howard Aru of the Vanuatu Investment Promotion Authority says since Virgin Blue began flying there a year ago there has been pressure on available accommodation.

He says they want to encourage people to invest in three or four star hotels or eco-tourism ventures.

"We are looking at Vanuatu as a major destination for people who want to retire or who wish to reside - very peaceful, very calm and peaceful environment - that is what our slant is. That is where we are targetting investments especially in the tourism sector."
