The acting premier of Niue, Young Vivian, says he should know by the end of the week if he will remain premier.

The results from the election were made final at the weekend when two tied seats were decided by drawing names out of a hat.

About 830 voters took part in the election and Mr Vivian is so far the only politician declaring their intention to become premier.

He says his intentions are clear.

"There are a number of things I wish to achieve and I think the memorandum of agreement that we signed, Helen Clark and I signed, there are a number of things there that need to be implemented."

Young Vivian.

A group of independent MPs says they will put forward a candidate for premier if Mr Vivian fails to give them one of the four cabinet posts.
