Election officials in Samoa are registering voters before announcing the dates for two upcoming by-elections.

The MP, Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi, has been elevated to the Council of Deputies, and the cabinet minister Tagaloa Tuala Kerslake, is quit politics to return to the law.

Tuiatua represented the constituency of Anoama'a East until last month when he accepted a nomination to fill one of the seats in the Council of Deputies.

Tagaloa is MP for Anoama'a West until next month when he takes up his new post of president of the Land and Titles Court.

Tagaloa entered politics after a career as a lawyer in New Zealand and Samoa.

He ran for parliament in 1996 general election and has since been a cabinet minister.
