Fiji wants more access to EU markets

7:31 am on 10 September 2004

Fiji is looking to negotiate greater market access for its products in the European Union.

This will be high on the agenda of the ministerial level talks between the European Union and Pacific ACP states beginning in Nadi today.

The talks are aimed at negotiating the second phase of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the EU and Pacific ACP states.

Fiji's minister for foreign affairs and external trade, Kaliopate Tavola, says apart from market access, local government officials are also expected to negotiate the promotion of industrial development.

The Pacific ACP states want the EU to promote and support the development of the fisheries and tourism sectors, as well as agriculture, mining and forestry.
