It's reported that the United Nations has been asked to investigate allegations of police human rights abuses in Indonesian province of Papua.

The Jakarta Post newspaper reports that the Office for Justice and Peace of Jayapura and the Franciscans International have asked the UN to intervene over the detention of two Papuans.

It's alleged that police in Wamena have denied proper medical attention to two men awaiting trial in connection with a burglary case.

Jigi Jigibalom, who's aged 50, and Tenius Murib, who's 28, are awaiting trial at a Wamena court for stealing weapons last year from a military arsenal in Bolakme near Wamena.
