Fiji flooded by Vanuatu kava

Vanuatu kava is reported to be flooding Fiji, with buyers paying as little as 3.50 US dollars a kilo and reselling it for about 12 dollars.

The chairman of the Fiji Kava Council, Ratu Jo Nawalowalo, has told the Fiji Times 10,000 kilogrammes of Vanuatu kava is entering Fiji every month.

He says this is undercutting Fijian growers and depriving them of income that should be rightly theirs.

Ratu Jo also says they are investigating allegations that a banned brand of the drink known as tudei kava is being dumped in Fiji.

He says he has warned Vanuatu officials that their kava might be banned
