Pacific nations are meeting in Kiribati to talk about making tuna-fishing a more efficient boost to their economies.
The president of Kiribati, Anote Tong, has told the South Pacific Forum Fisheries Committee in Tarawa it should consider ways in which the region can better gain from the tuna industry.
This week the members of the committee hope to find areas of common ground before a key regional treaty takes effect next month.
The Convention on the Conservation and Management of Highly Migratory Fish Stocks in the Western and Central Pacific comes into force on the 19th of June.
On the agenda this week are the setting-up of national tuna management plans.
This includes issues to do with monitoring and controlling areas, that have been set up within a nation's waters, for catching tuna.
