Contract of Solomon Islands general accountant may not be renewed

9:18 am on 13 April 2004

A report from Solomon Islands says the Accountant-General, Colin Davis, is being warned that his appointment may not be renewed when his contract ends in June.

The warning has been issued by top officials within the government and comes amid reports of discontent among some politicians and public servants over their difficulties in getting money.

Mr Davis, who was appointed by the Regional Assistance Mission, approves all requests for funds.

Sources say while there is generally strong support for RAMSI, some politicians and senior public servants are unhappy with the work of the Australian financial advisors working in the Treasury and Ministry of Finance.
