3:45 pm on 5 April 2004

Fiji Television Ltd is to launch a new pay TV service in July which will cover most South Pacific Island countries.

Sky Pacific services will be provided by a satellite transponder which will have a foot print covering Solomon Islands to the west to the Cook Islands in the east as well as Vanuatu, Nauru, Tonga, Samoa and Tuvalu.

The service was originally designed to reach all remote regions and islands of Fiji.

It will have twelve channels of programming including news and information, movies, sport, documentary and natural history, Hindi language programmes and the current Fiji One service.

Sky Pacific will be launched on July the first.

The announcement of the new service comes just days after a Chinese company, Fushun TV, said it has signed an agreement with the Labasa Town Council to provide cable TV services in Vanua Levu.
