Fiji musicians threaten action in copyright row

11:34 am on 1 April 2004

Local musicians are threatening legal action against the Fiji Performing Right association for not passing on royalty collections.

Radio station Legend quotes artist Steve Heatley as saying top musicians like Bill Beddoes, Danny Costello and Leo Osborned and others including himself are concerned they have not been paid.

According to Mr Heatley, the Australian parent body of the Fiji Performing Rights Association is responsible to ensure that artists are paid for the use of the music.

But the Fiji association's Eeremasi Tamanisau says they will be making their first royalty payments this June, which will be for 2001.
