Fiji union to meet ATH board to discuss grievances

6:11 am on 17 March 2004

Fiji's Post and Telecommunications Employees Association hope a meeting today with the board of Amalgamated Telecom Holdings, the parent company of Telecom, will resolve their concerns about the direction and management of the monopoly.

This comes amid reports of widespread redundancies and criticism of the actions of the senior management.

The union had written to chairman Kanti Tappoo on Monday threatening action unless notice was taken of their grievances.

Union secretary Attar Singh says Mr Tappoo has invited them to meet with the board of the holding company this afternoon.

"So we have decided to attend the meeting. I think it's the first opportunity we've had to meet the ATH chairman and we'll be presenting our grievances to him and we hope that he and his board will be able to see what we are saying and that we can come away from there, hopefully the matter settled."
