The Palau House of Delegates has dumped its Speaker, Mario Gulibert, saying a publicised affair he was allegedly conducting with the House's senior lawyer was undermining its authority.
The House has also sacked the lawyer.
The affair burst into the public arena after Mr Gulibert's wife, was accused by the lawyer of spitting at her and throwing a rock at her car.
She was found guilty of the charges.
Before the vote Mr Gulibert, who will continue as a Delegate, said his relationship had not affected the work of the House, which he characterised as productive and marked by unprecedented co-operation.
