The Regional Assistance Mission is again meeting public sector unionists in Solomon Islands to renew its plea that the workers agree to forego a pay rise granted by the government last month .
The government had agreed to backdate a 2.5 percent pay rise to January last year and it also approved a cost of living allowance of eight percent backdated to 2002.
It has already started paying the rise.
There has been widespread criticism of the rises, with RAMSI saying the country cannot afford it and asking for it to be deferred.
Last week, the union leaders offered a possible compromise, that, subject to the members' approval, the backdating component and the cost of living element would be dropped.
But a union leader says RAMSI wants the entire deal deferred and that has been the basis of new talks in Honiara.
Meanwhile, a meeting of union members has been re-scheduled for Tuesday.
