The head of a parliamentary body in Papua New Guinea wants the power to jail leaders who misuse public money.

The Deputy Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Kimson Kare, said the body needed more authority.

He said leaders were entrusted by the Government and if they misused public funds they should have to pay for their actions.

Mr Kare told the Post Courier that a total of 39 government organisations had appeared before the Committee this year, despite its limited time and finances.
