The Tongan Government is recruiting fisheries observers this week to work on board licensed fishing vessels.

The Ministry of Fisheries has organised a one week training programme which begins today in a bid to hire new staff.

Principal Fisheries Officer, Ulungaa Fa'anumu says officers are needed to collect a variety of information, including fishing locations and species caught.

The training will be conducted by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community with Siosifa Fukofuka as the consultant.
