Fiji's home affairs minister has welcomed the recruitment of more young Fijians into the British army.

Joketani Cokanasiga says the arrival of a British army recruitment team is good news for young people in terms of employment.

Mr Cokanasiga says the new recruits could benefit from very extensive specialised training programmes and their families at home would also benefit.

Currently 2-thousand Fijians are serving in the British army, some of them on active duty in Iraq.

Another 600 of the 15-thousand who have applied to join up will be interviewed this month.
