Fiji's ruling party is finalising the operational details of its fund raising company despite strong public misgivings about its establishment.
Radio Fiji reports that the party will soon appoint the chief executive officer of Duavata Initiative Limited whose directors are the Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, and three senior cabinet ministers.
The SDL's president, Ratu Kalokalo Loki, is quoted saying the establishment of the company will revolutionise the running of their party.
The company will be funded by pledges received from corporate organisations and individuals who like the SDL's policies and want to support the party.
Ninety percent of the funds raised would be used for the running of the party as well as general and municipial elections.
But critics of the move say it reeks of suspicion and breaches the ethics of political morality, transparency and accountability.
They fear that large donors and corporate organisations will seek favours from the government in return for their financial handouts.
