Regional co-operation, security and sustainable development are the main topics up for discussion when Pacific leaders meet with the French President Jacques Chirac tomorrow.
Mr Chirac is to meet with political leaders from most Pacific nations, bar Australia.
New Zealand is represented by Foreign Minister Phil Goff who says one of the key aims is to extend the level of co-operation between France and the Pacific Forum countries.
He says France is now a much more positive player in the region, and the Pacific has put behind it the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior and nuclear testing.
"and today we look at the potential of that relationship to deliver by cooperation in the areas of development assistance, emergency and disaster relief where we have a formal arrangement and also the resources France can bring to the region in terms of security, sustainable development and regional cooperation"
