Marshall Islands plans to set up internet service

10:42 am on 20 May 2003

The Marshall Islands National Telecommunciations Authority, has announced that it will soon become its own internet service provider or ISP.

The Authority, which has been using ITE in Guam as its ISP, is bringing in equipment to set up its own server operation.

The Telecom deputy manager, Tommy De Brum, says the equipment has been ordered and the server should be on-line by mid-July.

The Authority is seeking government assistance to use the Marshall Islands Internet domain designation of mh for its email address and websites.

Our corespondent says the domain name was apparently given to someone in the US and the authority is seeking help to get it returned for its use.
