The US department of Homeland Security has announced that it will award American Samoa more than $US 431,000 dollars for all hazards and emergency management services.
A Homeland Security Department official, Michael Brown, said the latest grant will give American Samoa and its local communities the flexibility to allocate funds according to risk and vulnerabilities.
It also enables them to address the most urgent needs in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
Mr Brown says these grants are further evidence of the Bush Administration's commitment to state and local governments for all hazard mitigation and preparation.
