The leader of Fiji's United General Party, Mick Beddoes, says he wants moderate ethnic Indians and indigenous Fijians to join up in a new recruitment drive.
And, he says the party, which previously represented other communities, believes it can attract sufficient candidates from all races to contest all 71 seats in parliament when elections are held in three years.
Mr Beddoes says politics has had racial overtones in Fiji for too long and it's time for a truly multi-racial party.
"I've had quite a number of Fijian and Indian citizens expressing directly with me that they would like to join up because they like the moderate stance that our party has and they agree with the fact that we need to develop a truly multi racial party because the Labour party while it is also open is basically taken a stance of predominantly representing the Indian community and the same goes for the SDL, predominantly the Fijian."
