Women groups on Papua New Guinea's Bougainville island are warning that widespread abuse of home brew by men is threatening the province's weapons disposal programme.
The National reports the Bougainville Women's Forum on Weapons Disposal saying that men under the influence of homebrew have damaged the property of aid agencies, stolen their vehicles and placed the safety of innocent people at risk.
The Women's Forum says that with a number of weapons still uncollected, this habit of drunken behaviour is worrying.
It says that it's calling for a total ban on liquor and that it supports an anti-alcohol campaign launched by the ex-combatants.
