The New Zealand foreign minister has named a career diplomat, Belinda Brown, as the next consul-general to New Caledonia.
Mrs Brown will also be accredited to Wallis and Futuna as well as French Polynesia which is New Zealand's second biggest export market in the Pacific.
She will replace Cecile Hillyer who will complete her term at the beginning of next year.
Mrs Brown is currently the deputy director of the foreign ministry's information and public affairs division.
