A veteran senator in American Samoa has joined the lieutenant-governor in supporting the candidacy of Fagafaga Daniel Langkilde for the territory's seat in the US Congress.
Senator Tuanaitau F. Tuia and Togiola Tulafono have come out to support efforts to unseat the incumbent, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, who is seeking re-election to serve an eighth term in Washington.
Observers say the local administration appears to opt for change after months of bickering between Faleomavaega and American Samoan leaders over a range of issues, including the election process and economic development.
Senator Tuanaitau says it's time for a change while Togiola says American Samoa needs people in congress that put the territory first.
