Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister, Sir Mekere Morauta, says the country's violent and chaotic election could be further extended despite the constitution.
Sir Mereke says the government will soon ask the national court to rule on the fate of the elections, as counting remains suspended in the troubled Highlands regions.
More than 25 people have died in election violence in the Highlands, the latest being a woman election official who was stabbed to death in Western Highlands.
The poll, which started on June the 15th, was originally extended by two weeks because of widespread logistical problems.
So far 66 of the 109 seats have been declared.
