The Fiji government has nominated the president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Jai Ram Reddy, to be a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
The nomination follows a recommendation by the foreign minister, Kaliopate Tavola.
Mr Reddy is a former opposition leader and leader of the National Federation Party.
He left politics in 1999 after his party failed to win a seat.
