Patrol boat heads for Anuta in Solomons to check residents after Cyclone Zoe

A patrol boat is due to leave for the island of Anuta in the Solomons today to check the well being of a thousand residents, a week after Cyclone Zoe hit the area with wind of more than 300 kilometers an hour.

Supplies arrived over the weekend on the island of Tikopia, where all fifteen hundred inhabitants survived relatively unharmed.

That patrol boat will now set out to travel to Anuta, which has been out of contact because of a lack of radio links and air strips.

An earlier flight over the island by AusAid indicated that it had suffered less damage than Tikopia.
