Dave Langrish first came to RNZ Concert's attention on Labour Day Monday.
As the station did its annual Settling the Score, texts come through from listeners around the country, and beyond.
When Langrish texted in from below the Antarctic Circle, Three to Seven host Bryan Crump just had to speak with him.
Easier said than done, when the man you're trying get through to is a busy member of the base's helicopter ground crew.
But with Christmas looming, and Scott Base looking likely to have a white one, Three to Seven managed to get through.
Dave chatted about his work on the ice, his love of the frozen continent's profound silence (when it's not blowing a gale) and love of classical music.
He even chose a piece for us.
