There is a performance of Olivier Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony in Music Alive tomorrow night (more details). Here are two of Messiaen's similar works from around the same time period: Cinq Rechants, which treats the Tristan & Yseult story) and Cantéyodjayâ, which uses Indian and Carnatic themes.

British conductor Sir Simon Rattle was born in Liverpool on 19 January 1955. He became well-known as the Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and since 2002 he has been the Principal Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic. In 2008, the players of the orchestra voted to renew his contract until 2018.
