First, it’s Symphony No 3 in C Major by CPE Bach. CPE Bach was initially taught music by his more famous father, Johann Sebastian Bach. CPE Bach can be considered a kind of 18th century ‘change manager’, because he helped bridge the stylistic gap between the Baroque and Classical eras. This is particularly apparent in his symphonies which have less formal structure than symphonies by his Baroque predecessors, and more unexpected twists and turns like we might hear in Classical composers like Haydn and Mozart.
CSO’s Principal Oboe Jenny Clapp is the soloist for Albinoni’s Oboe Concerto in D minor.
The CSO finish this concert with Haydn’s Symphony No 89 in F.
