Vadim Fong is a 15-year-old student from Whangarei Boys High School and member of Sistema Whangarei –Toi Akorangi.

Composition Adjudicator, Reuben de Latour (Senior Lecturer and Head of Composition at the School of Music, University of Canterbury), had this to say about the Vadim’s piece:

“Overall this is a very colourful set of contrasting works that cover a wide range of musical expression and make excellent use of the capabilities of the ensemble. The inventiveness and compositional fluency is well supported by clear and detailed notation, and a very good command of instrumentation.”

Vadim Fong’s ‘Seven Scenes for String Octet’ is played by: Donald Armstrong, Thomas Bedggood, Malavika Gopal and Rakuto Kurano (violins), Nicholas Hancox and Philippa Lodge (violas), and Ken Ichinose and Bethany Angus (cellos).
