New Zealand chanteuse Linn Lorkin has sung her way around the world, from Ronnie Scott’s in London to many years working in New York. She’s recorded twelve albums.

She writes:

“This song, written when I was living and gigging in New York in the 80s, came out of a powerful dream I had where I was flying like a bird, soaring over the hills and meadows. In the song, this becomes a metaphor for my life as a singer and songwriter. The last verse was inspired by the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins, as taught by C.K. Stead in my Auckland University English 1 lectures, which made a lasting impression on me.”

Recorded by RNZ Concert in the University of Auckland Music Theatre, 23 September 2018
