Hokorua: NZ Youth Choir 40th Anniversary Concert

8.00 Hokorua: NZ Youth Choir 40th Anniversary Concert

2019 was a significant year for the New Zealand Youth Choir – their 40th birthday.

They celebrated with their first ever tour of the Pacific – taking music back to communities that had provided so much in the development of the choir over the years, both in terms of music and singers to sing it.

Before jumping on the boat (the easiest and cheapest way to do a tour of several islands is via a cruise ship), the choir gave a concert in Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral. And the concert was a birthday celebration in itself. Voices New Zealand joined in. Also, the invitation went out to any alumni of the choir who could make it. At the end of the concert the massed voices provided a bracket of items.

They called the concert Hokorua ... an alternative word in Te Reo Māori for "forty".
