In this concert the section principal players of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra are joined by three special guests, violinist Tianwa Yang, cellist Gabriel Schwabe and pianist Nicholas Rimmer.

The first piece is Korngold’s dramatic 'Suite for 2 violins, cello and piano left hand'. The piece was commissioned by the talented pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who lost his right arm in the first world war. This piece was one of the first ones written for Wittgenstein’s left hand. Pieces by Ravel, Richard Strauss and other fabulous composers of the time soon followed.

The second half of the concert features a work for wind ensemble and string trio. It’s Beethoven’s 'Septet' – one of his most successful works.

Recorded in the Concert Chamber of the Auckland Town Hall in March 2019.
