Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra: Ehnes Plays Bruch
Superstar violinist James Ehnes joins the orchestra for Bruch's G minor Concerto, called "the richest, the most seductive" of all the major German violin concertos by Joseph Joachim.
Music Director Giordano Bellincampi is on the podium for this concert.
As well as the Bruch concerto, we have Richard Strauss's dense and intense Metamorphosen for 23 strings to begin and the second half takes us to the Rhine Valley with Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 3, known as the 'Rhenish'.
Programme:
Richard STRAUSS: Metamorphosen
Max BRUCH: Violin Concerto No 1 in G minor
Robert SCHUMANN: Symphony No 3 in Eb Op 97, Rhenish
James Ehnes (violin), Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra/Giordano Bellincampi
Recorded by RNZ in Auckland Town Hall, 30 May 2019
Producer: Tim Dodd; Engineer: Rangi Powick
