Alpine Adventure
Daniel de Borah (piano) / Eckehard Stier (conductor)
Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra
Eckehard Stier’s final performance as Music Director starts with Beethoven’s brilliant second concerto, with its witty finale.
Then Richard Strauss, that great painter of music, tackles his mightiest canvas in An Alpine Symphony. The immense bulk of the mountain looms out of the mists at dawn; the climbers walk through the forests on the slopes; they reach the summit, and look at the world below; they’re caught in a ferocious storm on the way down; the mountain recedes into dusk and darkness. Strauss shows it all in photographic detail. Played by a massive orchestra, you won’t want to miss this monumental concert. (Text courtesy of APO)
