"These are performances that make you fall in love with the music all over again". Gramophone

The Doric String Quartet is best known for the classics. Their recent discs for Chandos focus on Schubert, Schumann, and Korngold, and their debut Haydn disc was marked out for Gramophone “Editor’s Choice”.

These are the very composers they are bringing on this tour to New Zealand, four years after their enormously successful tour with Piers Lane. Formed in 1998, their career was launched by the 1st prize in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition and they are frequent guests at Wigmore Hall. They also have a strong commitment to contemporary music.

Tonight they are performing  ‘Eclipse’, a stunning quartet from Australian composer Brett Dean, winner of a number of international awards and focus of a recent 'Composer Portrait' from the Munich Philharmonic,  Haydn’s perfect Op 76/6, and Schubert’s epic D887, his last, and one of the most extraordinary things ever written.
