Navigation for NZCT Chamber Music Contest

Now in its 46th year and run by Chamber Music New Zealand, the contest provides a unique, positive and encouraging environment where young talent and creativity is supported and nurtured.  Close to 500 groups, involving more than 2000 students, entered nationwide across fifteen centres.

The National Final featured the six finalist groups in the Instrumental Performance section and a performance of the winning Original Composition.

Seen as a rite of passage for young musicians and composers in New Zealand, the contest has previously introduced New Zealand audiences to the likes of pianists Michael Houstoun and John Chen; violinists Wilma Smith and Lara Hall; and composers John Psathas and Alwyn Westbrooke.

Radio New Zealand Concert was there, along with a film crew, to cover the event.
