Vanessa Baxter's Home Made Beef Burgers

Patty Ingredients

500g beef mince

Salt and pepper

Dried herbs

Olive Oil

Optional Extras:

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs and an egg (assists in stretching ingredients to feed a crowd + adding juiciness)
  • minced garlic
  •

Method

Heat your oven to 180C

Tip chosen ingredients into a bowl and use your hands to loosely pull the ingredients together.

Divide into 4 portions and form into patties.

Heat a little olive oil in an ovenproof frypan on a medium heat.

When the oil in hot, add in the patties and allow to sizzle until golden. Flip and caramelise on the other side.

Remove the pan carefully from the stove, into the oven.

Allow the burger patties to cook through to your liking. Depending on the thickness this could be around 15 minutes.

Tips:

All Meat Patty

Choose a lean mince meat and treat it gently - don’t overwork the meat when forming your patty

Fresh mince is best - so once you open the packet of mince get working

Keep your mince cool - make the patties and pop in the fridge until ready to cook

Add grated carrot or zucchini, dried spices and herbs for juiciness and flavour

Special Sauce

Try a tomato salsa or a smashed avocado instead of commercial mayonnaise or tomato sauce. Or make your own mayonnaise. (recipe link here)

Cheese

Add a slice of a sharp cheddar to get a good cheesy taste

Bun

Choose a wholemeal bun rather than a white bun. Toast and butter before adding your hot patty. Or try a naked burger - without the bread.

Salad in the mix

Add shredded cabbage to the burger itself for a crunch. Or serve homemade slaw alongside.

Add slices of tomato or beetroot

Some gently fried onion rings (or raw if you can take it!)

Gherkin slices if you enjoy the tang.
