  • 500g minced steak
  • 2 large cloves garlic
  • 3 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup vermouth or wine
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock or water
  • 1 tablespoon dry breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon tomato concentrate

  • 1 large grated onion
  • 2 large cloves garlic
  • 2 cups tomato puree
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • a dash of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup vermouth

Combine all meatball ingredients. Knead well. Shape into slender sausages and lightly roll in flour. Fry in oil, just enough to brown. Remove from pan and place in casserole dish.

Add grated onion and garlic to frying pan. Stir, fry one minute. Add all other ingredients and bring to boil. Pour over Souzoukakia. Simmer 30 minutes in oven 150C, or on stove.

Serve with rice or spaghetti or mashed potato, salad and lots of red wine and crusty bread.
