Goma-ae is a Japanese side dish of vegetables in a sesame seed paste. Here I'm using black sesame seed powder for its unique nutty taste. This dish also works well with broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus or any seasonal vegetable.

Ingredients

  • 300g green beans
  • pinch of salt

Paste:

  • 2 tbsp black sesame seed powder
  • 4 tsp brown sugar
  • 4 tsp soy sauce

Method

To make the paste, mix together black sesame seed powder, brown sugar and soy sauce. Set aside.

Bring a pan of water to the boil, add beans and a pinch of salt and cook for 2-3 minutes. Drain and cut off the ends. Set aside to cool.

Once beans have reached room temperature, add the sesame seed paste to the beans.

Serve in a bowl to share.
