Spiced hot chocolate

  • 1 tablespoon good quality drinking chocolate (or finely chopped chocolate)
  • 1 cup of milk
  • Vanilla bean paste or similar
  • Pinch of  chili powder
  • Pinch of cinnamon powder
  • Orange


  • In a small saucepan heat the milk and spices to near boiling (approx 85 degrees).
  • Remove from heat and add the chocolate, leave for 30 secs to allow the chocolate to melt
  • Whisk vigorously
  • Return to heat but do not let it boil, continue to whisk until the drink has regained its heat
  • Pour in to pre warmed espresso cups
  • Grate a little orange rind to garnish
  • Enjoy!
