Everyone in our family loves apple pie!

Ingredients

  • 2 slices frozen puff pastry
  • 4-5 apples
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 4 tsp of ground cloves

Method

Take two slices of frozen puff pastry out of the packet, sprinkle both sides with a little flour, then put them aside to thaw.

Turn your oven to 200 C, with the oven slide in the middle.

In a large bowl toss together 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, and 4 tsp of ground cloves..

Thinly peel and discard the skins of 4 - 5 apples, then slice the apples into the bowl.

Mix the apples through the dry ingredients, then stir in about a tablespoon of oil.

Roll out the sheets of thawed pastry until they are big enough to fill a 20 or 23 cm pie plate, then lift one sheet into the oiled pie plate.

Put the apple mixture into the pie plate, so it is evenly rounded.

Wet  a pastry brush and brush it round over the pastry in the pie plate, then .put the other sheet of pastry on top, then press the two layers of pastry together, then trim the edges so they are  even. . Fold the edges of the pastry underneath and flute or fork the edges.

Brush the top of the pastry with milk or with lightly beaten egg for a shiny top.

Bake until the pastry is golden brown, usually for about 30 minutes. Lower the heat if you think the crust is too brown.

Serve the pie warm, cut in five or six wedges, with cream, ice-cream, or or yoghurt.
